Newsletter Week 9 - Term 1

Kowhai News Term 1, Week 9We are nearing the end of Term 1 which has zoomed by. We will be welcoming Jane back to the Year 2 team and I know she is looking forward to getting to know the children. We will be saying farewell to Elaine next week in our final assembly on Thursday, 13 April. Everyone is welcome to come to this assembly which will be held at 2pm.Elaine has put 25 years of teaching into Bayfield School and has dedicated her time and energy to our children’s learning. We are sad to see her leave but we know she is looking forward to spending more time with her lovely grandchildren.

Corbans Art Centre :Thank you to all the parents who came with us on the Corbans trip. The Pacifica Mamas were entertaining and the children responded with the same energy. They learnt how to greet people in different Pacific languages, they made their own leis and practised dancing and drumming. The parents got into the swing of things as well! We are tempted to post videos of mums and dads dancing . . .Please bring in workshop plans when they are finished so we can book in children’s workshops for Flexi Fridays. We don’t have any booked in for term 2 yet. We book the workshops in and then let you know the date that your child will run their workshop. Some children think that they do the workshop in the week they return their plan but we have to book a date so we can spread them out over the year.

Mathletics and Reading Eggs:Please make sure your child is completing their Mathletics homework – we are monitoring who is going onto the site and completing their assigned homework. You have paid for Mathletics and Reading Eggs for the year so it is in your interest that your child has regular use of both sites to improve their learning skills. We notice in particular that the children using Mathletics regularly make faster gains in their maths knowledge than children that don’t use it.
If you are having any problems logging on with either please let us know.A reminder that we communicate through the Kowhai blog site and use SeeSaw mainly for showing children’s learning and quick messages that we need to send out for the next day. We also post photos on the blog so if you want to keep up-to-date this is the best place to go.Regards Lucinda, Elaine and Sarah
