Newsletter - Week 5 - Term 1

Kowhai News Term 1, Week 5

We are looking forward to our Learning Conferences in week 7 where your children will talk to you about their learning. Please ensure that you have booked a 15 minute time slot for you and your child to conference on the dates given.

On Wednesday 29 March the Kowhai Team will be going to visit the Corbans Art Centre to take part in an art program called Pacifica Experience. Children will be introduced to the Pacific Mamas, experiment with musical instruments of the Pacific and learn drum patterns and dance movements. They will learn how to transform recycled resources into fashionable and colourful lei.

If you are interested in attending as a parent helper please let us know. We prefer helpers to come on the buses to help with management and movement – we won’t be able to take pre-schoolers with us due to numbers.

This week Constable Rob ran the Stepping Out program which focused on road safety for pedestrians. Classes took a short walk on the streets around the school and practised crossing driveways and roads safely. We have had to talk to the Year 2s about staying away from the staff carpark as several of them have been running across the driveway to play on the other side.

Please ensure your child has their book bags and sunhat every day so they are ready for school. We are still finding some children are not prepared for the day with book bags and hats. Children cannot take reading books home if they don’t have their book bags at school.

We are desperately short of parent help in our learning spaces and at library times – if you can help please put your name on the sheet in the classroom. We appreciate any time that parents can give and it makes a huge difference when we have regular helpers to read with the children and help with the day-to-day routines such as putting reading books away.

Regards Lucinda, Elaine and Sarah
